E3 2014: Microsoft Press Conference-all that you missed!!
By Dhruv Chopra, June 17th, 2014
Okay so, first of all, WHY ON EARTH would you miss E3? For those of you who are not aware, E3 is the Electronic Entertainment Expo where all of the latest and upcoming games are revealed and shown off to the world by the computer and video games industry. It is the biggest entertainment trade fair in the world. And press conferences by various big game companies to showcase their awesome new material are held During E3 and aired live around most of the world and even live streamed online by sites like IGN, Gamespot, Twitch, etc.
Now getting back to what you missed. Here’s a rather brief account of Microsoft’s Best Year at E3 yet:
1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Now getting back to what you missed. Here’s a rather brief account of Microsoft’s Best Year at E3 yet:
1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
So Of course, Microsoft decides to kick things off with the latest installment under the C.o.D name, Advanced Warfare. I’ve been really excited about this ever since they released the trailer. So finally getting to see some gameplay action was a blast for me. The game looks great, as any next gen installment should. I loved the new approach with the weapons. Grenades especially, which seemed to direct themselves towards an enemy, all in real time. The environment and back drop, same as before, filled with ruined buildings and orange-yellow blasts covering the skies and lands as far as the eye can see (Or as far as the draw distance goes). The whole military concept may seem overused by now but it never ceases to capture everyone’s attention. P.S. Kevin Spacey’s in it (In case you didn’t already know). The next big thing at the briefing was regarding Turn 10 studios’ FM 5. The studio had a fine surprise for all Forza players and it was the most iconic track in the world as a dlc, The Nurburgring, making its debut into a racing game. The gorgeous track has been captured a 100% at millimeter accuracy and is available for free for all FM 5 owners effective immediately.
3. Forza Horizon 2
The latest addition to the Forza universe, Horizon 2 will be available in stores on November 30th, like every other game in the Forza family, exclusively on the Xbox. As described by Ralph Fulton, creative director at Playground Games. It’s going to be larger, more diverse than ever. Beautiful, elegant and socially connected as well. With over 200 of the world’s best cars, features like dynamic weather and lighting and a huge open world.

4. Evolve
Now, this is a game that’s turning heads all over the industry with its brilliant new concept of 4 v 1. Where 4 players, choosing from classes like the assault, medic, trapper and support, go up against this Kraken like beast which unlike ever before, is controlled by a 5th player. It may seem like a disadvantage when you alone have to face 4 deadly opponents. But not when you look like the child of the god of hell.

5. Assassin’s Creed Unity
Oh my god, FINALLY. I’ve been waiting for the latest AC ever since Black Flag (which, to be honest, wasn’t that long ago, but I’m impatient). Unity is set in 18th century Paris, during the French Revolution. According to the developers, it is going to have the biggest map in any AC game yet. What’s special in Unity is the new online co-op feature where you can create your own brotherhood of up to 4 assassins to kill along you in the all new campaign. Frankly speaking, I was hoping for something more new, like maybe Japan, or Egypt, as was rumored. The world in Unity looked and felt a lot like that of the Ezio series. But the gameplay seemed fun nevertheless. The parkour and combat felt much more fluid than ever before. I have a gut feeling that Unity is going to provide the strongest storyline in the series yet. So fingers crossed.

6. Dragon Age: Inquisition
What a trailer! Cool knights, cool armor, cool swords, big-ass cool alpha predator Dragon, cool magic, cool monsters and other cool looking things. Personally, I’ve never been a huge fan of the dragon age series. I just could never find myself to like its combat or even the travelling system which made me feel like Gulliver (the giant dude from “Gulliver’s Travels”, well actually a normal sized dude on an island wi- You get my point). But that trailer was just so f*****g cool, I HAVE to play this. Coming October the 17th by the way.

7. Sunset Overdrive
This one’s been in talks for quite a while. It’s the final arrow in Insomniac’s quiver and I’d say they hit bull’s-eye right on! The game looked so vibrant and splashy, filled with colors which gave a very delightful and ecstatic feel. Insomniac made it evident with the ludicrous intro trailer that cover is just not an option. As the player, you’re always going to be on the run in this adrenaline pumped and amusingly gore fiesta. I loved how much freedom the player seemed to have, always on the run, or on a rope, or a railing, or whatever the hell they felt like sliding across. I loved how creative the weapons were, though they only showed off a few. So I can’t wait to get my hands on this gala of a game.

Super ultra mega dead rising 3 arcade alpha editioadhfnakjdfbcjhnj. Seriously man, WTF. I can’t even describe this, just have a look and figure it out for yourselves (If you can).

10. Fable Legends
“Gorgeous”. That was my first reaction when I saw Fable Legends. Initially, it gave that callow-ish feel with the Home-alone-toy-story-christmasy sort of soundtrack (yes, I’m not able to think of a word to describe it aptly enough, ugh) and the whimsical characters. That changed fast when a quest started. The combat seemed like loads of fun with impressive displays of abilities and powers by each player in the all-new 4 player co-op which they chose to show off. The surprise came when David, Game Director at Lionhead Studios revealed that this time you could also play as the villain. The villain has the freedom to control the world from above, set tenacious and vigorous challenges all around the map to make life as tough as possible for the heroes, even in real time. Like a real pain in the ass.

11. Project Spark
A unique and appreciable new approach. “Where the players create and the creators play”. Project Spark allows you to make your own game with the millions of fun and interactive tools at your disposal. The possibilities seem endless, from skeletal dragons to mechanized zombies, let your imagination run wild and create your own masterpiece. They must really be running out of ideas that they need us to make their games for them now, sheesh. I only kid. Though seriously, it IS something to think about.

I think something went into my eye, or someone’s cutting onions nearby. Even more than the gorgeous and amazingly artistic hand drawn Child of Light like graphics, it was the enchanting and captivating music that really took me away. There wasn’t much I could tell from the trailer apart from the fact that it’s going to be a very emotional journey. Oh, the feels.

OMG its Masterchief!! Never fails to blow my mind. Really sends a chill down your spine every time any mention of halo is made at big conventions (Hardcore fans like myself would understand)
“Because the seeds of our future are sown in his past”
Slick move by 343. Signifying the importance of the first 4 games using the mysterious figure from the upcoming 5th. *Goosebumps everywhere*.
The Masterchief collection will consist of the first 4 games of the epic saga. Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, Halo 2 Anniversary Edition, Halo 3 and Halo 4. From the developers of “LIMBO”, one of last gen’s most successful indie developments comes “Inside”. A similar dark and eerie vibe as that of Limbo’s, along with a little more color. Seemed scary and extremely mysterious for most part. Will have to wait for more updates.

16. Rise of the Tomb Raider
An unexpected surprise by Microsoft. A trailer giving a glimpse into the new adventures of Lara Croft (So Retro). The previous reboot was downright epic and not to mention, the all new superhot(er) version of Lara. My goodness she’s hot. So now they’ve got me looking forward to one more game. These people are going to be the end me, I’m sure of it.

More gameplay of the BADASS new Witcher, showcasing some cool new instinctive abilities which can now help you track down foes with the help of their bloodstains. In this particular demo, we got a look at the witcher hunting down a griffin (A mythological mixture of a lion and an eagle). We come across beautiful new landscapes in stunning visuals. The combat is more fluid and gore than ever. The head-to-head fight against the griffin seemed nothing less than exhilarating! NEED TO PLAY!

Classic Reboot of the original Xbox game. The studio must have some real faith in it to give it so much importance. Maybe they saw something in it that most others didn’t. Nevertheless, I’d love to see the new game in action a.s.a.p.

19. Tom Clancy’s The Division
Fell in love
with it the very first time I saw it at last year’s E3. The gameplay felt
elegant. The action was well laid out. The movements, environment and shooting
felt much more realistic than anything I’ve ever seen before. All thanks to the
Snowdrop engine used in the Division. This time around, there was more gameplay
to feast my eyes upon. Demonstrating all new gadgets and gameplay options.
Thoroughly enjoyed myself right through the Demo.

20. Scalebound
Okay so, a Dante look-a-like, running through a forest being chased by a massive praying mantis (That’s all I could make of it), defended by a giant dragon which goes on a fight-to-the-death with this mantis thing, I’m sort of confused. So Dante 2 shoots this magic arrow at the beast to support his dragon buddy, which supposedly needs help. And if that’s not enough, Dante 2 runs with all his might towards the ongoing fight with his sword in his hand and…his headphones blasting rock into his ears? Wtf. He jumps towards the mantis and transforms into this scaled knight midair? Yeah I can’t do this anymore. I’m going to need a psychiatrist if a go on. Nevertheless, everything seemed cool but I’m going to need more.

Crackdown is back with more neon than ever. And it looks fantastic. The Borderland type graphics and the tron-ish seem to blend really well. The trailer was definitely loads of fun to watch and now I can’t wait to get my eyes on some gameplay action.
