Hands On Review : Moto E
By Deepanshu Kumar, May 22th, 2014
The latest member of the Motorola android devices, the Moto E is all set to unleash what it has got under the hood. The Moto E which looks like a younger amalgamation of its elder brothers, Moto G and Moto X smartphones possesses some surprisingly amazing features all packed within the price band of Rs 6,999. With Moto E, Motorola has successfully reached the common man giving him a stunning first hand android experience coupled with the features of an expensive android smartphone. Lets check it out in detail.
The Moto E comes with a 4.3" (540 x 960)qHD display with a pixel density of 256ppi which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which has been rarely seen in such a device before. Bringing more competition to the other low cost smartphones from Micromax, xolo etc it comes with a splash proof display which is more or less water resistant.
Coming to the software and user interface, the Moto E sports the vanilla version of Android 4.4.2 Kitkat, again a never seen before feature that the phone has.
The hardware this phone is packed with, as we've discussed before is good enough to provide a lag-free and responsive user interface and was equally good when we played games like Subway Surfers and Asphalt 8. The Moto E runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset on dual cores with 1 GB RAM and 4 GB storage, an Adreno 302 GPU (which is read as 305 in benchmark scores). The hardware combo does wonders when it comes to play high definition games and HD video playback. Just like Moto G, this one also comes along with apps like Moto Assist and Moto Alert and other bloatware apps which can be uninstalled. The AnTuTu and Quadrant benchmark scores are as follows :
The Moto E comes with Dual-Sim capabilities providing micro-sim slots. Calls from one number can be easily forwarded to the other number when busy and the network strength was pretty good while travelling and in the basement area too. The 3G network can be shared via portable hotspot which does not consume a lot of battery as what was seen in other budget devices. The phone turns out to be a game changer when it comes to the battery backup. The 1980 mAh battery keeps the phone running for more than a day with normal usage, beating every other device in this segment.
"Motorola has successfully mastered the art of designing a smartphone with the best of Android that does not leak RAM and drain power and cellular antennas so strong that network searching is minimal, hence saving the battery even more."

The Moto E comes with front speakers which are loud and clear and will give you a better experience while watching videos on your phone. The 5 MP camera that the phone has is there just for the heck of it. Don't expect much from the camera quality as it doesn't even include a flash, so forget about using your Moto E to quench your thirst for photography. Still the picture quality is not as bad as what the specs say. See the samples below :
CONCLUSION :
Motorola (now a Google company) has actually made an effort to reach out to every pocket, specially in a country like India where there are many who have not yet made a transition from their traditional Nokia and Blackberry phones to an Android device. The Moto E is a perfect device to start with to get a first hand Android experience. The phone has successfully beaten all the present Indian and Chinese "smartphone compromises" providing a heavy battery life, a bright and vivid display with an IP coating(splash proof) and Gorilla Glass 3 all at the price of 6,999 INR. You should go for this little baby even if you are using a high end device because it could act as the best spare device for you with its rugged design and powerful hardware. "A perfect value for money device from Motorola"
