Jolla Launcher review
By Vishal Pandey / June 30, 2014
Jolla Oy (sometimes referred to as Jolla Ltd.) is an independent designer and developer of various mobile devices as well as their open Sailfish OS and Mer Core open source projects. Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Jolla has Research and Development (R&D) sites in Helsinki and Tampere, an office in Hong Kong, and they are establishing R&D operations in China.
Jolla a company formed by former nokia employees who were part of the MeeGo team left Nokia to form Jolla, utilizing funding from Nokia's "Bridge" program which helps establish and support start-up companies formed by ex-Nokia employees . They developed sailfish os which is based on the Meego platform which nokia dumped in favor of windows.
Jolla recently launched their jolla launcher for android to give users a peek into their sailfish os. Though the launcher is still in alpha phase and is optimized for nexus 5 and nexus 4 though it should work fine on any mobile having android 4.3+

As soon as you install and open the launcher a step by step instruction takes place introducing you to the launcher which will help you get used to the new interface jolla launcher will also change some of your app icons like phone, clock etc to give you a more authentic feel of sailfish os
The launcher just like sailfish os is gesture based where you can swipe up from the launcher to come to the homescreen(or whatever jolla calls it) where all the recently open apps are present in form of boxed tiles swiping up from this screen takes you the app drawer. There is no widget support. For some strange reasons, we were not able to set wallpapers on some phones and had to remain stuck with the original.

Based on our limited usage we would say that launcher has good potential but we would advise everyone to let it at least hit beta phase before using it because we faced some problems with the launcher even crashing a few times. But if you are feeling adventures you can download it from the given link and take it for a ride( a bumpy one for sure).
