Having leaked a fair few times, Nokia has finally made the Lumia Icon official for US’ Verizon Wireless network provider. The smartphone packs some seriously high-end internals, pairing the hardware specs of the monstrous Lumia 1520 to the boxy body of yesteryear’s another exclusive Lumia device for Verizon, Lumia 928.
The Lumia Icon sports a 5-inch super sensitive ClearBlack AMOLED display with full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution at 441 ppi pixel density, protected behind a curved sheet of Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by Qualcomm’s high end Snapdragon 800 chipset with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz each, and Adreno 330 GPU. Imaging responsibilities are handled by the same impressive PureView branded camera module present in Lumia 1520: a 20-megapixel 1/2.5-inch BSI sensor with f/2.4 aperture, optical image stabilization, assisted by a dual-LED flash. The camera is capable of capturing 1080p videos at 30 frames per second, with omnidirectional audio recorded through four separate microphones. The secondary front-facing snapper is a 1.2-megapixel affair capable of HD video capture. 2 gigs of RAM and 32GB on board storage come as standard part of the package, with the device, sadly, missing out on a microSD card slot for cheap memory expansion. Connectivity is covered by the inclusion of WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS, and FM-Radio. The 9.8 mm thick frame of the device weighs about 167 grams, and houses a 2,420 mAh battery pack, with support for Qi wireless charging.
