Panasonic has launched a new segment of Android and Windows Embedded 8 Handheld Toughpad phablets at the Mobile World Congress being held at Barcelona which are specially designed to be used by workforce in hazardous conditions.
The Windows-powered FZ-E1 runs off a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, while the FZ-X1 uses a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip. Both the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-E1 and Toughpad FZ-X1 smartphones come with 5-inch LCD displays with a 720×1280 pixel resolution, 2GB RAM, 32GB of built-in storage and microSD card expandability.
“Many businesses are looking for solutions to their business communication needs in a work environment but haven’t found it in the consumer mobile devices available,” said Jan Kaempfer, Head of European Marketing at Panasonic Computer Product Solutions. “The 5” toughpad with voice is the first of a new generation of rugged devices for these workforces and promises to be one of the toughest and longest working 5 inch device in the market. The new form factor is perfect for those in emergency services and public safety as well as for logistics, transportation, facilities, construction and field engineers.”
Both Phablets will have LTE connectivity, an 8-megapixel primary camera along with VGA front shooting snapper and a 6,200mAh battery. The pricing on these devices will soon be disclosed. The 5-inch Toughpads will first go on sale in Japan for about US$1,268 (Rs. 78,711). The FZ-E1 will launch in June, and the FZ-X1 will launch in August. The company has plans to launch these latest innovate "phablets" overseas. Last year, Panasonic withdrew making smartphones in Japan. However, the Japanese giant is actively promoting and producing smartphones for Indian market. The company recently unveiled features phones in India.
