The first question that comes to every one mind when they hear the word root (I am not talking about the root of the tree :p) is what is root and why should we root our phone. Today I’ll try to answer that that question as well as give you some good reasons of why should you root your phone.
Now what is root? The term “root” comes from the Unix/Linux world and is used to describe a user who has “superuser” rights or permissions to all the files and programs in the software OS (Operating System). The root user, because they have “superuser” privileges, can essentially change or modify any of the software code on the device. Rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's sub-system. In more simple words its gaining complete control of your android after which you have the ability to perform task which wouldn’t be possible without rooting your phone.
Now why should you root your phone? Well there are dozens of reason to root your phone let us see some of the most common reasons.
1.) Remove Bloat ware- One of the main reasons why many people root their phone is to remove bloatware from their devices. What is bloatware? It’s the useless apps and software preinstalled on your phone by the OEM. Mostly the apps are never used by the consumer and just remains on the device eating away precious storage space and ram and also takes its toll on the battery life. Now if you use a nexus or Motorola then you won’t face this problem because they ship with stock OS With no bloat. But if you use Phone of Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Gionee, Micromax etc then there is a high probability that you face this problem. Samsung and HTC are famous for loading their phone with useless bloat and gimmicky software, which the consumer hardly use. Rooting provides the option to remove this from the phone
2.) Apps Aplenty- Android has a great deal of app available even without rooting your phone. But after rooting it’s a whole different ball game, Once you're rooted not only can you get more apps, but the apps you have access to can get way down deeper into your phone's brains, and increase the functionality of the apps, For eg- Grenify which is our favorite app for battery saving does at least 50% better job on rooted phone than unrooted phone. Plus by rooting you can also have access to apps which are not available in your country or for your device by using an app named market helper.
3.)Speed/Battery Life Boosts- After rooting the phone you can tweak your phone to get better battery life and increase your phone performance. There are long list of apps which can do it. Plus you can flash some mods to increase your performance and also flash some custom kernel not only to increase the performance but also add new features to your phone.
4.)Custom Rooms- Custom rom is one of the biggest reason as to why you should root your phone. What is custom rom? A custom ROM is a modified version of the Android operating system. Tweaks, additional features, different themes or an enhanced performance are usually included. There are tons of custom roms available in the market right from asop which gives a complete stock android experience and up to Maui which gives android a whole new look and experience. You can enjoy xperia rom on your Samsung phone and vice versa, miui on your nexus, the list goes on and on plus there are also some great aftermarket rom developed by developers like Omni rom and Parandroid etc., which you can enjoy on your device.
5.) Newer android version- You can upgrade to newer android version which has not yet been released for your device with the help of custom roms. We know that after some time OEM stop supporting their devices and stop pushing major android updates custom rom help users to update their phone to latest android version. For eg Samsung Galaxy S III(non lte) will not receive kitkat update so a user will remain stuck with jellybean unless he decides to use a custom rom.
